The weather forecast for Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July is suggesting that there will be temperatures in excess of 30 degrees in the shade. An amber weather warning of extreme heat has been issued.

We recognise these are exceptional circumstances. So, therefore we want to support our students in dealing with this; please ensure the following:

  • Monday 18th July- Students are in uniform, but no blazer, tie or jumper is required. In other words, a white shirt and black trousers/delta skirt only. Or alternatively, if you wish, your child can wear PE kit, that is Academy logo shorts, and Academy logo PE top. No other variations will be permitted.
  • Tuesday 19th July – It is a non-uniform day and academy reward day. However, students will not be allowed to wear jewellery, make-up and revealing clothing. No hot pants, Nike Pros, crop tops etc.

On Tuesday 19th July all students will be in their houses for an academy reward day. During the day there will be an opportunity for students to take part in sports activities, form quiz, ice cream van, and inflatable obstacle course.

You should also where possible, send your child with an appropriate drinks bottle for water throughout the day and a cap/hat if they wish to wear this outside. Suncream on parts of the body exposed to the sun is a good idea and more information can be found on NHS Guidance on hot weather and how to protect yourself.

We will be taking all steps to ensure that the temperature in school remains reasonable and that students can access additional inside space throughout the day at lunchtime and break time so they can stay out of the sun.

All students have had information and advice about staying safe over the summer and about the dangers of swimming in open waters such as lakes, rivers, canals. However tempting this might be please can you remind them. We want to make sure they are safe at all times.

We will be sending our usual end of term newsletter next week. School closes on Tuesday 19th July at 1:00pm and students will given an opportunity to get lunch before they leave.

Yours sincerely

Mr R Burton
