Your child is approaching another very important stage in their educational journey. It is with great excitement that we can share the options process with you and your child.

Rossington All Saints Academy provides a broad and balanced curriculum which engages and challenges our students so that they achieve the best possible range of qualifications to enable their future aspirations to be fulfilled. The curriculum is designed to offer students a diverse and coherent choice of courses and learning experiences so that they develop skills and knowledge that remain with them long after examinations. This is so our students leave school as confident and independent life-long learners, equipped with the transferable skills needed to thrive in a changing world.

Students will take a suite of compulsory core of subjects at GCSE, however, they will also be able to choose from a wide range of optional subjects. Some of the subjects will be familiar to you; some will be new. This options guide and the KS4 Options page on our website are designed to give you information to help you make the best choices.

At Key Stage 4, all students study the following compulsory core subjects: It is now very important for you to think carefully about your strengths, skills and possible career plans. At Rossington All Saints Academy we are committed to providing a balanced curriculum for all our students.

  • All students are required to study a minimum of 8 subjects.
  • All students study History or Geography.
  • Many students will study Spanish.
  • All students have to study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science, Core PE and Religion, Ethics, Philosophy and Citizenship (REPC).
  • Students can have 2/3 guided free choices beyond these subjects from the approved qualifications list.

In addition to the core subjects you will have the chance to choose additional subjects to study.
You can state a preference for other courses that will make up your timetable of 25 lessons each
week.

It is important that you read through this information, speak to your child and watch the numerous videos on our options website page. If your child is thinking of a particular career path, make sure they talk to the careers staff at the academy for more information. The choices have to be right for your child so they need to think about the subjects they need, enjoy and/or interests them.

Aim high, choose wisely and work hard.
