Update from the Academy

Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: Update from the Academy

Can I take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for supporting our efforts to ensure all students are online and accessing their remote learning.  As you are aware this decision was made quickly at the start of the term and I have been overwhelmed by the efforts of both staff, students and parents to make the best of this difficult situation and adapt in the ways you have.

We fully appreciate that ‘home learning’ is difficult for all concerned and we would much prefer to have students in front of us in the classroom.  However, we also want to support the community in its fight to reduce the transmission of the virus and therefore we will endeavour to make the very best of the current situation.

I want to reassure you that all your efforts to support your child’s learning are appreciated by the academy.  I know many of you are juggling work pressures with home learning and this can be extremely difficult. No student enjoys staring at a screen for 25 hours with little interaction with their peers so please continue to encourage them as you are doing and explain that this will not be forever and they will return to Rossington when allowed and resume their ‘normal’ school experience.

We will be holding virtual parents’ evenings throughout the year for every year group where you can discuss your child’s progress with their teachers, the first being Year 9 on Tuesday 2nd March. More details on how to log onto this will follow. Progress reports for all years with effort grades including the results from the recent assessments have been sent out via School Gateway. The dates for the future parent’s evenings are:

Year 9 – 2nd March 2021

Year 8 – 9th March 2021

Year 7 – 20th April 2021

Year 10 – 4th May 2021

For Year 11 parents I appreciate you may be anxious about how GCSE grades will be given out, we will continue to work on this and will let you know when more secure decisions are made from the government, however please be clear no student will lose out and they will be rewarded for their efforts.  Year 10 students have been told that their option subjects will roll over into Year 11 to ensure they have more time to complete their studies and will not be adversely affected by the lockdown.

Year 9 parents will engage in the Options Pathway process this term as we can’t wait for the schools to reopen before we start this process. The Options Pathway process drives our curriculum and staffing and we therefore need this completed as soon as possible.  There will be a virtual Pathways Open Evening on Thursday 19th March and further information on how to login to this will follow.

Finally, we will continue to monitor the situation and be in touch as soon as we know more details about the reopening of schools.  The current announcement suggests 8th March however there are currently no more details of which year groups this involves yet.

As always if you have any further questions or you wish to discuss any of the information in this update please contact the academy either by telephone on 01302 562542 or email and we will get back to you to discuss any issues further.

Stay safe

Yours faithfully

Rob Burton
