Students had a brilliant time today at the Engineering Extravaganza at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. This was a STEM related careers event involving several different engineering institutions and engineering challenges. Students built motors from scratch, had a go at building a skyscraper like a civil engineer, studied the effects of nitrogen on balloons, eggs, fruit and flowers, looked at a wide variety of materials during a lecture from a representative of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and then had a go at making and testing a prototype jet propelled car.
A comment from the speaker of the last event of the day was that many in our group outperformed the other schools attending with Ben Bartram winning the challenge overall. The ‘Bloodhound Car Challenge’. His vehicle ran out of track and so went above and beyond what the organisers had planned for!!!
Well done to all students involved and a massive shout out to Ben for his achievement!
