The Learning mentors are based on the ground floor in the Student Support Centre. We support students that are having any difficulties in school, home or within the community. Students have many barriers to learning such as low self esteem, peer issues, behaviour concerns, learning difficulties, homework and coursework deadlines and students that are suffering loss or bereavement. We work together with parents to help break down barriers so that our students can enjoy and achieve their full potential by engaging in support offered for a positive outcome. Support is offered to students on an identified and individual basis either through group work on a one to one basis. The aim is to find solutions by putting in place a different range of strategies that can be reached by target setting. The Learning Mentors support students that are new in school, support transition from year 6 to 7, assign Peer Mentors to ‘buddy' students and mediate between students and staff. There are students in school that require further professional support from one of the number of excellent multi- agencies that we have a great partnership with. Our Learning Mentors write and deliver a range of different programmes of work that include self esteem, anger management, smoking cessation, boys group, fit club, funky divas, peer mentoring, attendance and transition groups. All students that access us can expect a qualified and professional level of support based on individual needs. We are a very successful team of Learning Mentors in our approach to supporting students in our school, as we respond to issues that affect young people in society today. We have an excellent relationship with students and parents that have helped mould a mutual and lasting respect not only for individuals but, also our school.
