English

English forms a part of each pupil's core curriculum throughout KS3 and KS4.  Pupils study a range of reading, writing and speaking & listening skills, which are all designed to aid communication.  There is also an emphasis on Functional English to ensure pupils have the necessary life skills to move on to further education or employment.

Pupils have the potential to gain 2 GCSE qualifications during KS4 - one in English Language and one in English Literature.  Pupils may take their English Language GCSE at the end of Year to ensure that pupils have the most opportunities to fulfil their potential.

English also runs successful courses at KS5.  We offer English Language (AS and A2 Level) and English Literature (AS and A2 Level).  These courses have proved to be popular and form a key part of the school's 6th form provision.
