6th Form Update - 21 November 2007
After a hectic but exciting few weeks we have now 170 students on toll in the 6th form. his is the highest number we have had in recent years studying the widest range of courses. Some of our less academic students who have struggled throughout their school careers have now found their niche and are excelling in their new career paths and have recieved compliments in their new areas of study. A refreshing change for someof them!
All 6th form students participated in the voting for House Captains and Vice Captains and the results were as follows:
Irwin - Lindsey Littlewood & Phillip Lacey
Parks - Dean Mitchell & Jamie Hastie
King - Emma Dowey & Gemma Harvey
Teresa - David Palmer & Jonice Henderson
After lenghty discussion the 6th Form Pastoral Team appointed Kristen Viet and Gavin Stalgis as Head Girl & Head Boy respectively.
Out of School Speakers
During the autumn months, we had the pleasure of number of selected charities and organisations, designed to help students discover the wider world and not just the doorstep we call Doncaster. World Wide Volunteering was one of the many organisations we turned our attention to. They are a non profit making organisation whose aim is to make it easier for people of all ages to volunteer. They do this by providing instant access to information about the widest range of volunteering opportunities throughout the UK and worldwide.
We also had various other speakers from the National Blood Service, Prison Service, L.I.F.E, Global Citizenship, Plan It, DSA and the Royal Navy.
Interhouse Quiz
Each House is currently organising its quiz teams ready for the yearly Chrismas Quiz Chalenge. The questions designed by Malc Lomas & Rebecca Cook are reputed to be absolute stinkers!!!!!! The first round of matches leading upto this event will held in November with the Grand Final in December. Will Parks be able to retain their title?
Interhouse Football
Interhouse football matches are in progress:
Irwin beat Parks 9-3.
Parks beat Teresa 15-11.
More matches will be taking place soon.
6th Form Seminar
Nineteen year 13/14 students attended an interview seminar at Castle Park on 24th October. They learned how to sell themselves from the application through to the interview and took part in a variety of role plays. Key features looked at how to dress, body language and deportment.
Alton Towers Visit
This vist took place in October and was part of an educational programme being run within the 6th Form. There were a number of customer service talks that gave an insight into he way that Alton Towers operates to ensure that customer service is top notch.
All in all it has been an extremely eventful and successful start to the 6th Form calendar and we are looking forward to many successful events that will lead to further student success.
