Parent Governor Vacancy

5th May 2015

Dear Parent/Carer,

Parent Governor Vacancy

I am writing to advise you that we have a vacancy for a parent governor which we would like to fill as soon as possible.

Rossington All Saints Academy aims for a partnership with parents which can undoubtedly bring great benefits to the students. One of the most significant ways you can help in promoting this aim is to volunteer to be a parent governor. The governing body, known as the Education Advisory Body (EAB) reports to the School Partnership Trust Academies (SPTA) as the academy sponsor, and is responsible for the conduct of the academy and for promoting high standards.  Its main aims are to ensure that the students of the academy have a good education and their well-being is supported.

The EAB consists of nine members including representatives from SPTA and Sheffield Diocese.   The parent governor role is vital to ensure that the needs of the students and their parents are properly represented in the development of the academy and its provision of the best possible education.

Who can be a parent governor?

All those who have parental responsibility and are over the age of 18 are eligible to stand for election, including parents who work at the school provided that they work for less than 500 hours per year when they are elected.

Are you interested?

If you are interested in becoming a parent governor but feel a little daunted by the responsibility you may be taking on, remember that full training will be available and you will always act as part of a team. No particular experience or qualifications are required.

Your commitment:

If you become a governor you will be taking on the following commitments to help make sure the school is well managed;

Attend and participate in governors’ meetings on a regular basis – the governors generally meet four times a year.  Meetings last no more than 2 hours.

Visit the school for monitoring purposes once per term.

We are looking for someone who has the best interests of the academy at heart; who is prepared to give time and energy to the task of improving students’ education.  If you would like to be considered for the role of parent governor could you please complete the attached application form and return it to Mrs Daws at the academy by Monday 18th May 2015.

If the academy receives more than one application a ballot will be held.

Please note that  all members of the Education Advisory Board are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

If you require any further information please don’t hesitate to contact the academy.

Yours sincerely
