Rossington Basketball Team Triumph 38-16 at De Warenne!

RAS arrived at De Warrene with a mixed squad of 12 students largely made up of year 11s and year 10s with one year 9 student.
The fixture was split into quarters, with our taller players playing their tall players for the first quarter then our smaller players playing theirs for the second quarter then repeated this for the second half.
De Warrene had a large bench of 20 or so players which meant they had fresh legs each quarter where as the Rosso teams played a quarter on quarter off.
Rossington started with their tall team, made up of Andrew Heath, Jonathan Ingram, Travis Dawson, Christopher Day, Adam Storry and Christopher Medley. RAS defended strongly from the tip-off, not letting De Warrene get near to the basket, Christopher Day quickly making a steal at the top of the key which led to a fast break, Christopher made the pass to Andrew Heath who was chasing the break towards the basket, caught the ball and laid it in off the backboard cutting past his defender, what a basket, Rosso up 2-0! Rossington went on to take the first quarter 8-0, with Andrew scoring all the points.
2nd quarter , our shorter players versus their shorter players, the RAS team consisted of John Griffiths, Joshua Walkers, Kieran Sherriff, Montana, Christopher Breeden and Martin Smith.
RAS struggled to get going this quarter, conceding 3 baskets, bringing the running score to 8-6! Both benches were going crazy, cheering, standing up and bringing the game to life. RAS calls a time-out.
Mr Williams calls a play to get Montana an open shot from a pass off Kieran. RAS up 10-6!
After Montana's inspiring shot, he was on fire scoring 2 more jump shots and taking the De Warrene players to the basket where Joshua and Martin were able to collect rebounds and score baskets.
First half finished 18-10, RAS keeping the 8 point lead! Well done lads!
3rd Quarter, tall v taller, De Warrene puts out a fresh team of taller year 11 players. RAS are slightly intimidated but kept their defensive zone tight around the basket stopping any chance of a hoop.
Travis battled strong under the basket to claim a lot of rebounds, while Christopher made steals and Jonathan provided an attacking force, making dribbles and shots to the basket. De Warrene created a 3 basket run with reply from Rosso, a quick time-out to discuss defence reinvigorated the RAS players and the benches of each team.
Andrew was again strong in this quarter helping to gain a solid lead, Christopher Medley and Adam Storry were defending and passing the ball well around the court creating open shots for Travis and Jonathan.
3rd quarter whistle, RAS still up and commanding a solid lead.
The fourth quarter was as good as the first, Rosso didn't allow De Warrene to score a single basket, Montana scoring all but 2 of the fourth quarter points, RAS win 38-16.
What a game, well done Rosso Rhinos!
Next fixture 11th March 2010 home against Campsmount.
