Maths
At Rossington All Saints School, we are constantly striving to produce a variety of teaching styles to develop the mathematical ability of each student. We are making giant leaps at present to ensure that each child achieves his/her potential.
Major emphasis is placed on parental involvement and we rely on the support that you give your child. In return, we will be keeping you regularly up to date as to your child’s development and the expectations of the mathematics’ syllabus that he/she is following.
KEY STAGE 3
At Key Stage 3, we follow the National Numeracy Strategy, especially the three part lesson. We have a variety of resources available. Groups are banded immediately as we feel this allows a better quality of teaching to similar ability groups. We achieved a creditable 66% level 5+ at KS3 this year, with 45% at level 6+. This placed us in the top 25% when compared with similar schools.
There is a great deal of support at Key Stage 3 through the schemes of work and learning assistants. Our aim is to have as many year students working to at least a level 4 by the end of year 7. Alternatively, we are developing our range of activities for able and talented students and differentiate in lessons to stretch the most able of students.
KEY STAGE 4
We follow the AQA GCSE mathematics modular course with promising results. This course really allows us to monitor the progress of students and to make remedial action should the need arise. We offer a successful GCSE statistics course to those yr10 students who are aiming for the higher tier. This is achieved in year 10.
KEY STAGE 5
For both AS and A level, we use the Edexcel modular course. This is constantly being reviewed so as to offer an advanced mathematical course that suits the requirements of the students. A resit of GCSE mathematics is also offered.
We have a very open department and will work together with parents to develop mathematics. If at any time, you should require any further information, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
At all Key Stages, we promote the use of ICT within mathematics and benefit from a departmental interactive whiteboard in addition to the use of the School’s numerous ICT suites. We have full class sets of graphical calculators and each classroom is fully equipped.
We look forward to seeing you in September and ask you to contact us for more information if needed.
