ICT

ICT is a core part of everyone's life whether they know it or not!  All of us have our details on several databases throughout the country: doctors have our medical files; banks have all our financial files; Inland Revenue have our tax files, to name but a few.

ICT is also an integral part of most people's working life not to mention the community aspect with the amount of social websites (like face book, bebo) and internet dating services.   Just about every aspect of our lives can be run or monitored through computers, from emailing a friend or managing your bank accounts to on-line shopping.

It is vital therefore that we inform and guide our young people on ICT issues as societies becomes intrinsically linked to these rapidly expanding modern technological advances and with this in mind Rossington All Saints School aims to provide its pupils with an education programme that teaches all that mentioned whilst following the ICT National Curriculum up to and beyond level 2 qualifications (level 2 equivalent to GCSE).

Pupils are taught specific software skills and have the opportunities to apply these to given realistic scenarios.   These raise awareness of ICT issues whilst working towards nationally recognised qualifications.  Below are some of the genetic software programs that we teach.

  • Wording Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Database
  • Emails
  • Websites
  • Presentation
  • DTP

These skills are progressively taught throughout the year groups leading to a level 2 qualification in Year 9, with further opportunities in Year 10 & 11.   With the latter we also process digital inputs from cameras, videos and sound, to produce coherent outcomes using 2 operating systems; Windows and Apple Macintosh.

Our aim is to give pupils a wide range of experiences in technical and creative softwares that mimic real life situations so that they are technically capable, and aware of wider issues and able to apply most forms of ICT post school.
